A Little About Myself and 2009

I was born in 1979, a year that I think of as being on the cusp of true modernity. So many things came along as I grew up in the 80s. Music videos, cable tv, cassette tapes, etc. One of the things that all children of the 80s understand is that decade probably had the best cartoons ever. Gobots, transformers, voltron, the list goes on and on. I grew up in home that was very religious and this was enforced by both my dad and mom.

On a more serious note, this year has been such a roller coaster. Mom passed away from cancer in the same month that I was supposed to be celebrating my first wedding anniversary. I must say that has been an experience that only someone who has been there can understand. One thing that I find to be so interesting is that although my dad is still alive and I have three other siblings, it sometimes seems like I am the only person in the world now that my mother is gone. I have a hard time simply going to my parent's house now because of the feeling of grief that comes over me when I walk through the door.

I guess this year has been pretty traumatic for a lot of people. I mean with the death of Michael Jackson as well as Farrah Fawcett and other well known figures. The economic crisis is also pretty serious. This week schools where I live are facing the threat of being furloughed which means that teachers would lose some pay. I was of the opinion that the only people that the recession is really hitting hard is those who made significant amounts of money or those who worked in financial fields. As an African American male, I must admit that most of the people that I know are still pretty much living the lives that they lived before the recession, myself included. Now with the whole furlough thing on the horizon, I am directly affected by that. As a man of faith, I have to believe however that things are going to get better and until they do I will be alright.

My Life and Times: Inaugural Blog

Hello All!!!

I want to start by saying that I am very excited about having my own blog.  I am really not used to blogging so to speak, so hopefully over the course of time my site will become better. I was attracted to this because I like to be introspective and analyze my thoughts on things. So feel free to "holla back". For your listening and viewing pleasure, I have added a video of one of my favorite songs.
